Meštrović’s crikvine are located near the Meštrović Gallery, but right next to the sea. In 1939, Ivan Meštrović and his brother Petar bought the Capogrosso Castle with the intention of repurposing it. The eastern part of the complex is intended to be a residential space, even though the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel is located inside. The western part of the complex was converted to exhibition space by Ivan Meštrović, and he displayed wooden sculptures depicting motifs from the life of Jesus Christ in the main exhibition hall (the present-day Church of the Holy Cross). Ivan Meštrović opposed the common name Kaštelet (castle) for this religious – artistic complex. Apart from the existing Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel and the newly-built Church of the Holy Cross, he believed that the land contains the remains of older churches – Crikvine, and he used that name in his deed of donation.
